What is the SHIELD Study about?

SHIELD (Strengthening Health through Immunity, Early Lactation, and Disease prevention) aims to understand how breastfeeding parents create personalized protection for their infants during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, and beyond.

Vaccines to protect against COVID-19, Flu, and RSV are now approved and available for pregnant women. We are studying how immunity is transferred from mom to her baby during pregnancy.  In addition, we are studying how early life events impact infant immune development.

Who can participate:

  • Mothers who are pregnant or recently delivered

  • Infants 6 months or younger

Help us:

  • Learn more about the development of infant immunity

  • Learn how babies fight off respiratory infections including COVID-19, Flu, and RSV

  • Further understand the benefits of human milk

  • Develop better vaccines for the future!

Compensation:

You will receive compensation for your time and effort for visits with infant blood donations.
