What is the Pertussis Immunity Study about?
The understanding of how immune cells respond to infection to develop long-lived memory is central to improving efficacy of vaccines against pertussis (whooping cough).
The purpose of the study is to characterize the T and B cell responses following an acute pertussis infection in previously vaccinated or unvaccinated children and adults compared to uninfected individuals. A second aim is to understand the role of maternal protection in blood and milk against infant infection.
Who can participate?
• Any person who tested positive for pertussis by PCR
• Any person without pertussis that is age matched with a case (sign up to volunteer,
and we will call you if we have a case in your age group!)
Help us:
• Characterize immune responses to pertussis
• Determine which immune responses correlate with protection against the disease
• Develop better vaccines for the future!
Compensation:
You will receive compensation for your time and effort for each visit.
