What is the Baby Saint Study about?
Most COVID-19 research has focus on adults, but more knowledge of how to protect children is needed. RSV and Flu also can be dangerous for infants and young children. This research study is being conducted to better understand how children’s bodies learn to fight off the respiratory viruses compared with adults.
The study also seeks understand how mothers protect their young infants during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Vaccines to protect against COVID-19, Flu, and RSV are now approved and available for pregnant women. We are studying how immunity is transferred from mom to her baby during pregnancy. In addition, we are studying how immunity in human milk helps to protect babies.
